Dr. Larry R. Fairbanks
Memorial Golf Scramble
Fox’s Den Golf Course, Celina

Have you seen the material for “Engage the Word” from our General Church? If not, call the General SDMI in Lenexa to get on board with this denominational wide emphasis. The Church of the Nazarene has partnered with American Bible Society on a Bible reading emphasis. We would like you to join together as church families to “Engage the Word.” My church is planning on doing this together and it is gaining some excitement among all age levels.
Engage the Word is a church-wide Bible reading program built around a carefully selected list of short Bible passages. It enables people to get the big picture of the Bible without getting bogged down.
You can also sign up to register to receive daily Scripture in your email starting Sept 25, 2011 through November. This way, you can engage with God’s word daily, along with the whole Nazarene body.

It’s time for the annual Larry R. Fairbanks Memorial golf tournament.  This event was started several years ago to help build new dorms at the Lighthouse Camp and Conference Center.

The event will be on October 9, beginning at noon.  The cost is $45.00 per person and is a four person scramble with shotgun start.  There will be prizes for the top 3teams, longest drive, closest to the hole, etc.  Range balls will be free 1 hour prior to the start.  A meal will be included at the finish.

The sponsors are the real success of this event.  A donation of $100.00 will sponsor a hole in your church name.  Sponsorships are open to businesses or private individuals as well.  Be a great cheerleader and help this be another successful year.  Have anyone that is interested contact me about the details.

Registrations are to be sent to me at the church address and postmarked by September 30.  Teams must register together.  Individuals that register will be assigned to a team.  Checks must be sent with the registration and payable to NWO District Treasurer.

Prime Time Festival of Joy
Thursday, October 13
Mount Vernon Nazarene University

This is a special day of celebration with our senior adults and we look forward to the interaction and fellowship. Here are a few details you will want to share with your district senior adults:

  • The speaker for the morning session will be Eastern Nazarene College Chaplain, Dr. Corey MacPherson.
  • Brian Arner will also be leading worship in the morning and presenting a concert in the afternoon.
  • Colonel Vance Huston will speak during the afternoon. You won’t want to miss his wonderful stories and experiences… I won’t give away too many surprises.
  • MVNU Music Groups will be providing music throughout the day.

Another item of interest for the day is Grandparents’ Day. We would love for the grandparents of our current students to visit campus and spend some time with their grandchildren. They will have a bit of free time together, then all grandparents and grandchildren will come together for dinner. MVNU President, Dr. Dan Martin, and Campus Chaplain, Scott Peterson, will be speaking during the dinner.

What an exciting and fun packed day it will be. We would love your help in promoting this on your region. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I can be reached at 1-888-470-0050.

We will be doing registration a little differently this year. We will do it by alphabet rather than district to cut down on registration time. For this reason, district reps will not need to man a registration table. Please plan to come with  your district or church groups and enjoy the day. Thanks for all you do in helping make this event a success.

Empowering the Church Tour: To All Generations…
October 24 1 at Hope Community (Oregon, Ohio)
October 25 at Upper Valley Community (Piqua, Ohio)

Please be sure to get the numbers and registration to me as soon as you can. Try to get as many people as possible to come. You will have better ministers as they will be encouraged by others and enjoy a challenging message from Dr. Tim Elmore.
timDr. Tim Elmore is the founder and president of Growing Leaders, an Atlanta-based non-profit organization created to develop emerging leaders. Through Growing Leaders, Elmore and his team provide public schools, state universities, civic organizations and corporations with the tools they need to turn ordinary students into growing leaders who will transform society. Elmore’s curriculum is widely recognized as one of the most effective programs for training and inspiring our next generation of leaders.
Tim Elmore has written more than 20 books, including the best-selling book series Habitudes®: Images that Form Leadership Habits and Attitudes, Life Giving Mentors, and Nurturing the Leader Within Your Child.  He has delivered leadership training and keynotes to hundreds of academic and corporate organizations in more than 30 countries as well as athletic organizations including the University of Texas and the University of Miami football teams, the University of Alabama athletic department, and the Kansas City Royals Baseball Club. In addition, a number of government offices in Washington, D.C. have utilized Dr. Elmore’s curriculum.
Elmore received a Bachelors degree from Oral Roberts University and masters and doctoral degrees from Azusa Pacific University. He has also taught courses on leadership and mentoring at nine universities and graduate schools across the U.S.
Tim Elmore lives in Atlanta with his wife Pam and his two children Bethany and Jonathan.
What would it look like if every generation worked together to further the Kingdom of God without complaining. I know what some of you are thinking – it doesn’t happen on this side of heaven. Let’s back up the train for a moment. Come and learn how to leverage God-given strengths in each generation to support and grow the church together. Don’t miss this opportunity to empower your church. I just recently had the question, “Can I open registration up for my whole church?” The answer is YES! If there is someone you are trying to disciple and train to be a future leader, then by all means bring them. Offer to pay their registration.

Teach the Word, Proclaim the Good News, and be Christ-like in all of your endeavors!

Joy in Jesus!
